Focus on the Results, Not on the Obstacles
By Marte Cliff
My library of CD’s is pretty extensive - but it doesn’t contain much music. Instead it holds the wisdom of many self-help gurus with differing points of view.
While many of these gurus discount the teachings of “The Secret” and books like the “Attractor Factor,” when you pay attention you’ll learn that it really all comes down to the same thing: You have to focus on what you want and not on what you don’t want.
It doesn’t matter if the reason is that when you send out the right energy the Universe will respond and help you, or if it means your focus will prompt you to do the right things.
The funny part is that even the gurus who “poo-poo” the more spiritual aspects of attracting wealth do stress that once you’re focused and on your way, you will attract other people who will help you. They say its because of the energy and enthusiasm you project, never realizing that the other books say essentially the same thing.
One of my speakers talks a lot about making choices. Do you make them from your present circumstances, or from your vision? If you want success, your choices have to support your vision. But too many of us choose from our present circumstances. For instance, being overloaded with work, needing a little more sleep, living with nonsupportive people, being ridiculed by family for trying to get ahead, not being a good writer, not having any seed money, and on and on. When we choose from that standpoint, we generally choose to stand still.
So what to do?
I think you need to start with your goal - or your vision - in mind. Then work backwards to see how you can accomplish it. Don’t think about what factors might stop you, or the problems you’ll face, just think about the solutions and the baby steps you can take on your way to success.
Make a plan. If you want to increase your income to $10,000 per month and you’re now at $2,000 - what can you do to add $10 per day? Then when you accomplish that step, what can you do to add another $10?
If you want to build an internet business, what small step can you take today? Should you choose a domain name and purchase it? Maybe a blog would be a good place to start. If you have your domain name, you can start working on your sales letter (making sure that it shows your readers the benefits, please!) If you want to do affiliate marketing, you can start researching for products you’ll be proud to promote.
You know that there is something you can do today to put you one step closer to your dream. So instead of relaxing with the television or a book or a game, take a half hour or an hour and just get busy. I can tell you from firsthand knowledge that making progress toward a dream is a whole lot more relaxing than watching television! When your hour is up, you may not want to stop!
Reaching your goal might mean getting up a half hour earlier, studying about marketing during your lunch break, or giving up television, but in the end, taking those small steps will be worth it.
Nobody went from pinching pennies to wealth in one day - at least not unless they inherited it. I know some of the programs for sale out there promise overnight riches, but if you think realistically, you’ll know it just isn’t true. A great income requires time and effort.
Get rich quick schemes are only designed to make the seller get rich! And if you take the time to think about it, you know that before they could produce that marketing piece that tempts you, they had to learn quite a few things, not the least of which is how to write persuasive copy - or how to hire the right copywriter to do it for them.
Going from where you are to where you want to be can seem impossible - if you try to do it all in one leap. But broken into small pieces, with focused action, you can get there. And better yet, you can bask in each little accomplishment as it comes along - and that will add to your confidence as you gain expertise.
How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. And that’s also how you create success in every part of your life.
